Polyrhythmic architecture and songs that unknowingly transition through multiple key signatures lay the foundation for this body of work brought together by three seasoned musicians, Tony Kalhagen, Amanda Lawrence and Fonetick Lee. Tony met Amanda while working in the neo-classical project "This Twilight Orchestra" in Portland, Oregon.Tony was ready to step off into a new musical adventure and invited Amanda to join him on that journey. Tony began writing new material, this time not on guitar but instead on Piano. He wanted to to approach this new endeavor from a very 'music theory' stance since both him and Amanda are classically trained musicians. Tony would say, "I Love working with Amanda as we both speak the same language, a language very few people I know speak". After a few months they had these first five songs ready to perform and record. Enter Fonetick Lee. Fonetick Lee and Tony have been performing and collaborating on music since the mid-nineties. Most notably they created one of the first all live electronic acts in the underground Rave scene in Northern California, "The Ambient Love Lounge" Twenty years later they both found themselves living in Portland, Oregon. Fonetick Lee was drawn to the new project and began composing electronic music to the new tracks. The culmination of these efforts is "Noir", the new album from Tony Kalhagen The album begins with the full "Circus" as Tony calls it, music from the Big Top. It borders on a chaotic yet very listenable and actually very cohesive piece of musical literature that stands outside of any current genre. The second half of the album is "Naked". It is just Tony and Amanda. Scratch tracks of the same five songs left raw, you may even hear a click track bleeding in through the headphones. Tony chose to release these versions as they really show the individual sensibilities of each track. These original tracks were all recorded in Tony's living room in downtown Portland. Welcome to the Big Top.
